I really respect and cheer on your awareness and efforts to parent independent of past practices you/we experienced. We do not have to pass on outmoded or outright bad practices to our next generation. 🙏💐🍵

Thanks much, Paul! Parenting is also an ongoing practice of acing a roller coaster ride while trying not to panic. I am writing this as we struggle with our youngest sick again given this unpredictable weather. Hoping to find light from this tunnel 😅

This was a lovely read.

I would go as far as to say: We are nature.

Wuyi Mountain Dahongpao Rock Tea makes me feel so grounded and held at the moment. It’s a hug in a cup.

Raising a cup of tea to you.

Warm wishes from Cornwall.

Thanks so much, Kasia! Indeed, we are nature. The Chinese and Japanese character for tea, 茶, is made up of three radicals - humans in between grass and trees. Always a good reminder.

I am looking forward to following your work. Thanks again for reading and your warm thoughts. Cheers from Kyoto! 🍵

Yes! I love that very much. My dear friend’s Tea company is called just that: Grass, People, Tree 茶. If you haven’t heard about it I deeply recommend it.

What a small world! I love Grass People Tree and have bought a couple of items from them. Don’t know Rui personally but just had an initial contact with her a few weeks ago.

Tea world is a small world 🍵 I’ve learned that this day, doing research on Chanoyu. Rui is wonderful and her tea is like nothing I’ve ever had. Wishing you many delicious sips.

Firstly, thank you so much for sharing this wonderful peace, Peck Gee!

I’ve had this article saved since the day you published it, and I’m so glad I finally made the time to read it. I savored every word with the same mindfulness you beautifully describe when tasting tea.

And I absolutely adore every word you've written!

Having grown up with Soviet parents, I completely understand what you mean about being raised with a focus on obedience, conformity, and sacrifice. Your thoughts on parenting truly resonate with me. Every word strikes a chord.

I believe that incorporating mindfulness and meditation into parenting can have many benefits for both the child and the parent. But in Germany (where I live and grew up), meditation is not a very common practice. This has always made me curious about the impact of teaching children to slow down and practice deep breathing. Thank you for sharing your experience, it’s truly insightful!

When it comes to meditation, you're absolutely right—there are countless ways for adults to self-soothe. Unfortunately, many resort to harmful extremes, which is disheartening. That said, I can understand why this happens. Often, people perceive these methods as quicker or more immediate than the practice of meditation. However, I believe this is shifting as more people recognize the benefits of meditation and mindfulness, thanks to insightful articles like yours.

And I absolutely love the concept of tea meditation! The way you describe your experience of connecting deeply with the unseen world of tea is truly beautiful. It’s both inspiring and mesmerizing. Every word in your description felt like a breath of fresh air. I’m genuinely excited to try tea meditation for the first time.

Zhenya, Thanks so much for reading and for your kind words! I am so glad to read your reflections and am happy that the piece resonated well with you. Meditation and mindfulness may work for some and may not for others. I guess we need a suite of tools (from the spectrum of stillness to playfulness) for the emotional regulation of adults. Please keep me posted on how tea meditation goes for you - I'd love to hear more.

A suite of tools sounds like an excellent idea!

Will do that :) I’m having a tea tasting soon. But tea meditation and ceremonies are harder to find here in Germany. However, I’ve already discovered a few spots to explore. It's on my list for this year.

And of course, you’ll definitely be the first person I'll think of to share my experience with! :)
